The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has reconstituted its Bureau through by-elections held at its headquarters in Midrand, South Africa earlier today. These elections filled the vacant positions of President, 1st Vice President, and 4th Vice President.

Hon. Lucia Dos Passos from Cabo Verde, 3rd Vice President, who served as Acting President leading up to the by-elections and oversaw the highly anticipated election process, has received widespread acclaim for her adept and smooth handling of affairs. This leadership helped avert potential chaos, ensuring the Parliament now benefits from a fully reconstituted Bureau.

At the beginning of the proceedings, Hon. Dos Passos addressed the Plenary, urging the Members of the Continental Parliament to demonstrate responsibility and maturity. Her approach throughout the meeting was described as firm, objective, and skilful.

Hon. Chief Fortune Charumbira, re-elected as PAP President, extended his gratitude to Hon. Dos Passos for her professional conduct and commitment to restoring order within the PAP. This sentiment was echoed by fellow Members of Parliament and guests in attendance.

The main focus of the recently concluded Extraordinary Session was to carry out elections for the previously vacant positions within the PAP Bureau. These roles had remained unfilled due to earlier elections and the unconstitutional changes in government within some Member States of the African Union.
