145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) opens in Kigali

H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda officiated the opening of the 145th edition of the Assembly on Tuesday at the Kigali Convention Centre. Related meetings will be held until 15 October 2022 under the theme:” Gender equality and gender-sensitive parliaments as drivers of change for a more resilient and peaceful world.”
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), led by H.E Hon. Chief Fortune Charumbira has joined about 1000 other delegates including 60 speakers and deputy speakers of Parliaments from across the globe in the Rwandese capital for the 145th Assembly.
Other topics to be discussed by the assembly will include environmental degradation and its effects on the proliferation of terrorism, the impact of war and atrocity on the civilian population, and war and climate change as triggers of global food insecurity.
