The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is currently participating in the Political Meeting of the African Governance Platform at the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Leading the delegation on behalf of the Acting President is Hon. Lucia Dos Passos, the  Third Vice President, along with representatives from the PAP Secretariat.

The main objective of the Political Meeting is to assess the progress made in implementing flagship projects by the Platform members. These projects aim to promote and safeguard human and people’s rights, strengthen democratic institutions and culture, and ensure good governance and the rule of law across Africa. The agenda includes a presentation of the outcomes of the Technical Meeting of the AGA-APSA Platform and the election of the new leadership of the Platform.

The meeting is attended by political leaders representing the organs of the five AGA Platform members: the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR), and the Committee on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).

Established in 2012, the African Governance Architecture serves as a "platform for dialogue between various stakeholders" with a mandate to promote good governance and human rights while reinforcing democracy in Africa. It translates the objectives of legal and policy pronouncements in the AU Shared Values. The AGA's foundation is rooted in the need to enhance the impact of AU and Regional Economic Communities interventions in addressing governance deficits on the continent.

Inspired by the Constitutive Act of the AU, the workings of AGA and its institutional mechanism, the African Governance Platform, underscore the AU's commitment to 'promote and protect human and people’s rights, consolidate democratic institutions and culture, and ensure good governance and the rule of law.
