H.E. Dr. Fateh Boutbig, President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), has indicated that youth engagement will be central to the manner in which the Pan-African Parliament, during its Seventh Legislature, conducts its business.

The President believes that young men and women across the continent should be prioritised in the activities to be undertaken as the Continental Parliament strengthens its role as a platform for people from all African states to participate in discussions and decision-making on the problems and challenges facing the continent.

While in Algiers, Algeria, H.E. Dr. Fateh Boutbig received Mr. Mustapha Hidaoui, Algerian Minister and President of the Higher Council for Youth. The meeting also served as an opportunity to exchange views and reaffirm the importance of strengthening youth engagement and enhancing young peopleโ€™s contribution to the advancement of African integration and joint continental action, in line with the aspirations of African Union Agenda 2063.

The President of the Pan-African Parliament and the Algerian Minister of Youth also discussed possible synergies between the two institutions through the Pan-African Parliament Caucus on Youth. President Boutbig highlighted that the Parliamentโ€™s Caucus on Youth has established itself as a strong advocate for the rights and interests of Africaโ€™s youth.

Dedicated to promoting youth-led development, the Caucus focuses on addressing challenges related to education, employment, healthcare, and leadership representation. Its work is centred on four key areas: policy advocacy, civic engagement, youth empowerment, and partnership building.
