The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) made waves at Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC25), attracting interest from various stakeholders eager to collaborate with Africa’s Parliament on closing the continent's digital divide.

During this significant connectivity event held in Kigali, H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, President of the Pan-African Parliament, and Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), held their first meeting in the presence of their respective delegations.

This introductory discussion allowed both organizations to understand each other's mandates and explore potential synergies in digital transformation, which is vital for driving economic prosperity, job creation, skills development, gender equality, and socio-economic inclusion.

The leadership of the Pan-African Parliament and the ITU have agreed to explore innovative partnerships that aim to foster meaningful connectivity, enhance cooperation to reach the unconnected, and align digital technologies with inclusive and sustainable development goals.

ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for digital technologies (ICTs). The Organization is made up of a membership of 194 Member States and more than 1000 companies, universities and international and regional organizations.

An invitation was extended to ITU to address the next Plenary Session of the Pan-African Parliament.
