The Pan-African Parliament has been announced as the host institution for the Third Global Parliamentary Summit Against Hunger and Malnutrition, to be convened in 2026. The announcement followed the successful conclusion of the Pre-Summit Meeting held from 10 to 11 November 2025 at the Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
The Pre-Summit meeting, organized by FAO, provided a vital platform to identify emerging trends, challenges, and thematic priorities that will shape the agenda and debates of the 2026 Summit. It brought together parliamentarians, UN officials, and global stakeholders committed to strengthening political dialogue and collaboration for food security, nutrition, and sustainable agrifood systems worldwide.
In her intervention on behalf of the President of the Pan-African Parliament, Hon. Dr. Fatimetou Habib, First Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament reaffirmed Africa Parliament’s strong commitment to advancing the global agenda for ending hunger and malnutrition and expressed appreciation for FAO’s leadership in facilitating international parliamentary cooperation on this issue. She announced that the Pan-African Parliament was honoured to serve as the host of the Third Global Parliamentary Summit in 2026 and assured that the institution would spare no effort to ensure the success of this historic global event.
In reaffirming the Pan-African Parliament’s readiness to host the Third Global Parliamentary Summit Against Hunger and Malnutrition in 2026, Hon. Dr. Habib emphasized that this milestone represents a pivotal opportunity for global parliamentary unity and action to end hunger and ensure nutrition for all. “The Pan-African Parliament stands ready to host the global parliamentary community in 2026. Together, we must transform our shared vision of a world free from hunger and malnutrition into concrete, coordinated, and measurable action,” she declared.
The meeting was attended by several distinguished participants, including Senator Gian Marco Centinaio, Vice President of the Italian Senate; Hon. Mirco Carloni, President of the 13th Standing Committee on Agriculture; Hon. Luca De Carlo, President of the 9th Standing Committee; Mr. Maurizio Martina, Deputy Director-General of FAO; and Ms. Fatouma Seid, Deputy Director of the Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division of FAO.
FAO has already convened two global parliamentary summits against hunger and malnutrition, in Spain in 2018 and in Chile in 2023. Elevating the role of parliamentarians in the global food security agenda, these meetings have laid the foundation for greater, more strategic engagement worldwide.
The Global Parliamentary Pact against Hunger and Malnutrition adopted at the last summit is a clear, shared commitment. The 2026 Global Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition will provide a unique opportunity for African parliamentarians to share their experiences, successes, and innovations, demonstrating how agrifood systems can be transformed to nourish populations while preserving resources for future generations.
