PAP is saddened by the passing of Hon. Hindou DEIH

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) announces with sorrow, the death of another Parliamentarian, Honourable Hindou Mint DEIH, who passed on 14 April following a long illness.

The late Hon. Hindou Mint DEIH was a member of the continental Parliament representing her country, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania since October 2019. She served in the Permanent Committee on Health, Labour, and Social Affairs.

The Bureau of the PAP has expressed shock and sadness at her passing, describing her as a strong force and cornerstone of one of the biggest achievements of the Parliament in her short-lived representation.  

“Hon. DEIH hit the ground running, making her presence felt in the finalization of the Africa Model Disability Law, which the Continental Parliament adopted in Plenary in October 2019. Her enthusiasm will forever remain a source of motivation for the PAP family to deliver on instruments meant to improve the lives of African citizens.”

The Pan-African Parliament, through the Bureau expresses its condolences to the DEIH family, the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Northern African Caucus of the PAP, as well as the Permanent Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs.  

Hon. DEIH was regarded as one of the most prominent figures of  Tawassoul, her political formation, where she was Vice President and leader of the Women’s wing. Alongside her assignment at the PAP, Hon. DEIH dedicated her time to a movement that works towards economic and leadership empowerment of women on the continent.

She will be remembered for her advocacy for inclusion of women in the economic decision-making, peace & conflict resolution as well as governance.
