The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) President, H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, met with H.E. João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union (AU), during his official bilateral visit to the National Assembly of Angola.
The meeting focused on critical operational challenges faced by the Pan-African Parliament, including budget constraints, and the need for targeted interventions to effectively fulfill its mandate.
President Lourenço expressed his commitment to addressing these concerns and assured Chief Charumbira of the African Union's support for the Pan-African Parliament. He emphasized the importance of the institution in advancing the integration of the African continent.
Furthermore, President Lourenço commended the leader of the continental Parliament and the entire membership of the PAP for their efforts to rejuvenate the institution, ensuring it remains aligned with the vision set forth by Africa's founding fathers.
The Pan-African Parliament continues to play a vital role in unifying Africa and addressing the pressing needs of its citizens. Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to collaboration for the betterment of the continent.
The bilateral visit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola, which took place from 13th to 16th August 2025, was intended to strengthen bilateral ties between the National Assembly of Angola and the Pan African Parliament in line with Article 11(7) of the PAP Protocol to which obliges the continental legislative institution to, “Promote the coordination and harmonization of policies, measures, programmes and activities of the Regional Economic Communities and the parliamentary fora of Africa.”
