INVITATION TO MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative Organ of the African Union (AU), wishes to inform members of the media that the Sitting of its Permanent Committees and Other Organs will take place from 17 September to 4 October 2025 at the PAP Headquarters in Midrand, South Africa.

Media representatives are invited to cover all public sessions starting from 25 September under the following details:

WHO: African Heads of State and Government, Pan-African Parliamentarians, Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments, Members of National and Regional Parliaments, Clerks of National and Regional Parliaments, Government Officials, Civil Society Organizations, Academia, African Union Member States, African Union Organs and Institutions, United Nations Organs and Bodies, and the Diplomatic Corps.

CONTEXT:

The September Sittings, therefore, represent the second round of Committee meetings this year, enabling Parliament to fulfil its core oversight, advisory, and consultative functions. This arrangement also allows multiple functions to be carried out simultaneously while ensuring in-depth examination of priority issues.

During the Sittings, Committees will review the implementation of programmes and projects aligned with the PAP Strategic Plan, Agenda 2063, African Union programmes, and the AU theme of the year. In addition to the statutory Committee meetings, the programme will feature high-level events and special engagements, including the 13th Annual Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments under the theme: “Transforming Parliaments to Catalyse Citizen-Driven Continental Integration, Sustainable Development, Prosperity and Peace, and Enhance Africa’s Dynamic Role on the Global Stage.”

The Pan-African Parliament has eleven Permanent Committees whose mandates mirror those of the African Union Commissions. Each Committee is composed of up to thirty Members, ensuring regional and gender balance, in line with Rule 22(5). The Committee on Audit and Public Accounts is an exception, with a maximum membership of fifteen.The Permanent Committees of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) meet twice a year for statutory sessions and may convene more frequently during parliamentary sittings or for non-statutory meetings when necessary.

The eleven Permanent Committees of the Pan-African Parliament scheduled to sit are:

  • Committee on Education, Culture, Tourism and Human Resources
  • Committee on Cooperation, International Relations and Conflict Resolution
  • Committee on Gender, Family, Youth and People with Disabilities
  • Committee on Monetary and Financial Affairs
  • Committee on Trade, Customs and Immigration Matters
  • Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs
  • Committee on Transport, Industry, Communications, Energy, Science and Technology
  • Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline
  • Committee on Justice and Human Rights Committee on Rural Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment
  • Committee on Audit and Public Accounts (CAPA)
