The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), represented by H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, President of the institution, and GSM Association (GSMA), represented by Angela Wamola, Head of Africa, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC25) in Kigali, Rwanda, recognized as the largest and most influential connectivity forum in Africa.
This agreement outlines a commitment to collaborate on initiatives that promote human rights, good governance, democracy, and digital transformation across the continent. Both parties will focus on advancing African Union instruments related to digital rights, data protection, and cybersecurity.
Key aspects of the partnership include:
- Organizing joint sessions with national parliaments to address technology-related issues.
- Following up on resolutions passed by the Pan-African Parliament.
- Co-hosting meetings for leaders to discuss governance and digital transformation.
In addition, the MoU emphasizes collaboration on studies and Model Laws concerning artificial intelligence and digital inclusion. The goal is to foster governance and digital trust while participating in forums that encourage the exchange of expertise in AI and digital literacy.
This partnership will also include mutual support during official missions, bolstering the ongoing efforts to enhance digital connectivity and literacy across Africa.
