Today, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Ghana, welcomed a delegation from the Pan-African Parliament Committee on Trade, Customs, and Immigration Matters. The delegation, led by Hon. Rodney Cloete from Namibia, is in Accra, Ghana to assess the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Guided Trade Initiative and to advocate for the ratification of the African Union Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, Right of Residence, and Right of Establishment.
In his welcoming remarks , Hon. Muntaka, a former member of the Pan-African Parliament for over a decade before his recent appointment to the Ghanaian executive, reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of Pan-Africanism. He pledged his support for the ongoing mission of members of the Continental Parliament, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
The discussions highlighted Ghana's pioneering role in free trade and explored strategies to bolster intra-African trade, promote peaceful coexistence, and enhance regional integration.
The Minister also addressed the security implications of Ghana’s free movement policies, noting that a more cautious and phased approach has been adopted in their implementation as a vital aspect of African integration.
