Chairing a session on the collaboration between the PAP and other African Union (AU) Organs in achieving the objectives of the Union, Hon. Francois Ango Ndoutoume, 4th Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has commended presentations submitted by various Organs and Departments of the AU. The presentations were made during the Strategic Reorientation Workshop for members of the PAP, held under the theme: “reviving, renewing, repositioning and reinvigorating the Pan-African Parliament” on the margins of the ongoing August Sittings of the sixth Parliament in Midrand, South Africa.
The presentations, which are meant to strengthen the linkages between the PAP, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and other AU Policy Organs in achieving the objectives of the Union, were conducted by various Departments which included African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, the African Governance Architecture (AGA), Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, Department of Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining, Department of Infrastructure and Energy, Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation and Department of Health and Humanitarian Services.
Overall, the presentation sessions were intended to unpack the continent’s developmental blueprint, Agenda 2063, and the role that the PAP should play . The session also illustrated the possible synergies between the PAP, the AUC other AU Organs and how the PAP can leverage on these linkages to achieve its mandate and drive the attainment of objectives of Agenda 2063. It further sought to catalyse the transition from superficial collaboration between the PAP and other AU Organs to more effective cooperation that positively impacts on the lives of the African citizenry.
“We are very pleased with the informative and constructive submissions by various presenters today which saw us realising our goals,” said Hon. Ndoutoume who chaired the presentation sessions.
“As PAP we are taking note of everything. We are certain all these submissions will guide us and help us grow as an institution. We need to prioritise continental initiatives like Agenda 2063. We must always recall that implementation leads to the well-being of the African people and that we need to consider as a matter of urgency for us to have a stable and prosperous continent.”
