The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) convened a consultation meeting for its Bureau and other leadership structures of the Parliament on Results-based management and strategic planning ahead of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament slated for Monday, 24 June 2024.
The workshop, opened by the President of the Continental Parliament, Hon. Chief Fortune Charumbira, aimed to enhance the understanding and alignment of Pan-African Parliament activities with the African Union strategic directions and decisions, particularly focusing on results-based programming and budgeting. The meeting also addresses Agenda 2063 and its 10-year Implementation Plan and facilitates discussions on the Pan-African Parliament's strategic priorities for 2024-2028.
As members of the continental legislature prepare to deliberate on the African Union theme for the year 2024 and other critical issues facing the African citizenry during the next two weeks, the engagement process sought to analyze and synthesize relevant facts and information and further discuss the strategic niche of the Pan-African Parliament and its pivotal role in the implementation of Agenda 2063.
The key aspect of the workshop was a presentation by Mrs. Botho Keba Bayendi, Director of Strategic Planning and Delivery at the African Union Commission, on the Agenda 2063 Second 10-Year (2024-2033) implementation Plan, including the Moonshots of the African Union. The seven moonshots symbolize the commitment of the African Union to comprehensive development with the ultimate goal of advancing the continent and its people. Consequently, the Pan-African Parliament will align its mission and objectives with these moonshots.
Finally, this workshop sought to provide the platform for the political leadership of the Pan-African Parliament to actively engage and participate in formulating the 2024-2028 strategic plan. To this end, this workshop seeks to enhance the capacity of Pan-African Parliamentarians to apply results-based management and strategic planning principles in their work to improve Parliamentary effectiveness and accountability.
